In 1976, the introduction of the Patek Philippe Nautilus firmly altered the direction of luxury sports watch design – offering a true competitor to Audemars Piguets’ then four-year-old Royal Oak. Famously penned by Gerald Genta, the design featured an integrated, water-tight case, inspired by the “porthole” circular windows of transatlantic ocean liners. The Patek Philippe Reference 5711 was introduced in 2006, succeeding its highly-collectable predecessor the Ref. 3700/1, in celebration of the Nautilus’ 30th anniversary.
This Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 features a date function at 3 o’clock and is housed in a 40 mm case. It has a dark brown gradient dial, composed of different shades starting with a lighter brown at the centre and darkening as it reaches the perimeter. The dial is further composed of horizontally embossed lines, adding depth and creating different tones of brown as it reflects light from different angles. The gold, applied index markers have rose gold surrounds with a luminous coating in the centre and consistent with the markers, the baton shaped hour and minute hands are similarly coated and made of gold.
The 5711 is powered by Patek Philippe’s in-house caliber 324 S C, visible through the sapphire crystal display-back. It is composed of a 21k gold rotor due to the heavier properties of gold, allowing a more efficient self-winding system. Furthermore, the movement has a four-arm Gyromax balance beating at 28,800 oscillations per hour. This Nautilus has the Patek Philippe seal, guaranteeing its accuracy to -3/ 2 seconds a day and ensuring excellent finishing.
This Patek Philippe 5711R comes accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin (dated August 2008), its original product literature, leather wallet and fitted presentation box. The watch was fully serviced by Patek Philippe in January 2018, and comes with a Patek Philippe service guarantee.
The watch comes on a Patek Philippe black alligator strap, and a matching rose-gold twin-folding clasp.
